Hummingbirds ... Still and In Flight

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek
Stop by and check out the other great stories being told!
Maybe you can even create one of your own!

Disclaimer: Because my blockhead husband won't keep up his own blog, every so often I am forced to use his photos on my blog -- especially when he takes some really cool shots. So I need to tell you that these photos are by Mr. Jenners -- not me. However, I maintain the feeders so if it weren't for me, these shots would not exist at all.

Every year -- starting in late April and ending in early September -- we are graced with the presence of hummingbirds. We have about seven who buzz about our yard. They are very territorial so I've been forced to put up at least three feeders -- though they still insist on dive-bombing each other!

I think hummingbirds are amazing. They are so tiny yet so fast. They make the coolest buzzing sound when they pass by. I love looking at our window feeder and seeing them close-up. Their feathers have an iridescent green color that is just beautiful. You can't really see it in these shots unfortunately.

The only problem is that their speed makes them very difficult to catch on film. But Mr. Jenners has been working hard and got some pretty neat shots that I wanted to share with you. We'll start with some "still lifes" and then move on to photos in flight. Enjoy!

Beautiful! They are some amazing little creatures, aren't they? Mr. Jenners did a great job getting those shots.
And you did a great job maintaining the feeders. :)

thank you so much for stopping by. He was hard to interview - but it was fun. I do that to him all the time just because I don't want to forget what his little baby voice sounds like as he grows.

I LOVE hummingbirds; they are beautiful.

Hummingbirds are amazing! Terrific photos. I wish I could see some around my house. You have a whole hummingbird sanctuary at your house! So cool for Little One! My kids would love it.

Fun stuff! I have a couple of honeysuckle bushes in the back of the house so I don't have to put out feeders. Unfortunately, it's also not an easy trip out of the house to there so I never make it out in time with my camera. The little guys just leave too quickly. Point being -- I'm enjoying your photos as substitutes for never getting any of my own!

Those pictures make me want that awesome camera. Good job! How long did it take him to get it?

These are some great shots. I love bird pictures. 'My' hummingbirds are territorial like yours. Normally one or more of them eat at the feeder in the back yard. When we got home today from a week away the feeder in the back is full like I left it, but the one out front is empty. ?? Crazy birds.

Wow! We can only get one hummer to visit our feeder and only about 2 - 3 times a day. I cannot seem to get a photo. Looks just like yours though. They are such fascinating creatures to me.

Tell Mr. Jenners I am very impressed with his photos! WOW! Fantastic! I once dated a professional photographer and I know how difficult that was to capture (I am not sure said ex could have done it :))

Wow! That is so rare to see them standing still. These are some amazing photos. I'm so impressed with how close they are. And yes, that last photo is awesome :)

I love hummingbirds. I learned last year that they are not the smartest of God's beautiful creatures as they would fly down into my huge white cat's mouth!

Those are awesome! I have mastered the art of hummingbird photography myself, but now we don't have any place to hang a feeder! Must... hang... feeder...

Thank you for sharing these! :-)
